Appropriate access to computer networks and across firewalls is essential for VET practitioners and learners. With the rapid growth of new web technologies computer network access is now seen as a major issue across the VET sector. There is a fine balance required between reducing barriers for access and innovation and maintaining appropriate levels of network security.
The Teacher E-learning Toolkit was developed to support the adoption of desktop/web functionality that should be available to all practitioners in VET.
The initial 2007 VET Computer Network and Firewall Access study was based on a number of national workshops to discuss computer network and firewall access issues, the workshops were attended by practitioners and network administrators from across the VET sector.
Following the initial 2007 VET Computer Network and Firewall Access study further work was undertaken in 2008. This included a second national workshop to discuss computer network and firewall access issues, held with representatives from each jurisdiction.
Once again, in 2010 a range of e-learning practitioners from all jurisdictions was consulted and the data gathered was collated with research from a range of vendors, system administrators and IT stakeholders.
The results of the consultations and research were collated and analysed to produce updated versions of the VET Teacher E-learning Toolkit and its companion document Commonly used VET e-learning applications and tools (See Related E-standards for Training Resources box).
We are committed to maintaining the documentation on commonly used e-learning applications, but we need your help. If you believe we should add or change any of the information in the documentation, please email us. We would particularly like to hear from you if you've experienced computer network-related access issues with these applications (as a technical support person or a user). Similarly, if you believe there are other applications we should add to the list in the future, please email us.
Note: The technical information we provide is a guide only. It is not intended to replace the documentation supplied by the software vendor. If you find an error in our documentation, please contact us and we will update it.
