External Links

This section provides links to the organisations and groups that are involved in the development of specifications and their evolution into standards. It also lists groups that are involved directly in the application of specifications and standards, or play a role in supporting their use. It includes both Australian organisations and international ones.

Resource repositories

There are several national collections of learning resources to support the training sector and these are emerging as digital resource repositories. Several states and territories have resource development agencies with collections of resources that could be exchanged. Some well known international repositories have contributed to the growing interest in repositories.

National VET Services

The core sites for the vocational training and education sector are listed here. They provide important classifications of qualifications, competencies, disciplines, industries and copyright licenses. Many of these have been adopted within Vetadata, the VET metadata application profile.

Educational specification groups

Several Australian organisations include the development of learning technology specifications as part of their role. They collaborate with IMS and other bodies involved in similar developments internationally.

Internet bodies

These international organisations establish and promote standards and protocols for the internet. They include the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative (DCMI) and the Web Services Interoperability (WS-I) Consortium.

Models and guides

These groups focus on the application and adoption by interpreting and refining existing specifications and standards, and through advocating their use.

Standards authorities

These are organisations that manage the process of standards definition and approval. They include Standards Australia, some of its peers, and the International Standards Organisation (ISO).

Whole of Government

Government bodies with relevant protocols not specifically developed for education.
