AGLS: AGLS Metadata Standard [project]

The AGLS (Australian Government Locator Service) Metadata Standard is a set of 19 descriptive elements which government departments and agencies can use to improve the visibility and accessibility of their services and information over the Internet. It has been mandated for use by Commonwealth Government agencies (see Better Services, Better Government: The Federal Government's e-Government Strategy).

ASCED Field of Education [vocabulary]

The Australian Standard Classification of Education (ASCED) was developed by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) for use in the collection, storage and dissemination of statistical and administrative data relating to educational activity undertaken in Australia. The development of the classification involved extensive consultation with relevant Commonwealth, State and Territory agencies, educational institutions and other stakeholders in data on education in Australia. In the VET sector this consultation included ANTA, DETYA and NCVER.

ASCED Level of Education [vocabulary]

The Australian Standard Classification of Education (ASCED) was developed by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) for use in the collection, storage and dissemination of statistical and administrative data relating to educational activity undertaken in Australia. The development of the classification involved extensive consultation with relevant Commonwealth, State and Territory agencies, educational institutions and other stakeholders in data on education in Australia. In the VET sector this consultation included ANTA, DETYA and NCVER.

ASCED consists of two classification schemes "Field of Education" and "Level of Education", both of these can be used at three levels of detail (called Broad, Narrow and Detailed). Level of Education is consistent with, but more detailed than, the AQF system of qualification levels.

Vetadata v 1.0 was endorsed by the Flexible Learning Advisory Group in May 2005 as the recommended Metadata Application Profile for VET educational resources.

Vetadata is based on IEEE LOM v1.0 and is intended to provide a stable reference for the VET system in Australia and to achieve interoperability and discovery of educational resources

It recommends a small mandatory minimum metadata set for resources in general, and a larger set for those developed as Learning Objects allowing for conformity with the SCORM Learning Object specifications.
